Welcome to Bawaka
The Burarrwanga Bawaka family now offer seven day a week cabin accommodation, safari tents and BYO camping, and unique Yolngu cultural experiences, as well as guided visits to the magical iconic Ngalarrkpuy Lonely Beach. (Ngal / arrk / puy). You can also book a weekend cultural experience or other private group visit.
All visitors will experience breathtaking landscapes, pristine beaches, and crystal-clear waters. While there, you can relax, have a picnic, do a Bayni beach walk through a small tropical rainforest to another beach, fish off the rocks. Or just relax on the large deck with access to bathroom facilities, an open-style kitchen/dining/lounge area with a BBQ, fridges, sink, and an open beach fireplace.
Accommodation – Book Cabin Accommodation, Safari Tents or BYO camping for a night, or as long as you require. Weekend one-day or two-day Special Bawaka cultural packages are also available.
Ngalarrkpuy Lonely Beach Tour – Can be booked with your accommodation as an add on. This tour now also includes a visit to Bungugunglu, a very large, thousands-of-year-old Yolngu fish trap site.
One Day Cultural Experiences – You can now book a 1 Day Visit to Bawaka homeland. The Day Visit includes Welcome to Country, a site orientation, and an overview of the important cultural protocols for visiting this sacred Yolŋu site, as well as a guided visit to Ngalarrkpuy Lonely Beach.
Cultural Experiences For Groups We offer a 1-day or 2-day special tailored experience for schools, private, or corporate groups. See below for an outline of the cultural experiences.

Limited access. Bawaka Homeland is limited to 4-wheel drive vehicles. With 17km of bush track to drive. The wet season can produce washouts, and some creek crossings will require a fitted snorkel. In the dry season, the 5km beach drive can be in soft sand. Experienced drivers are required.
Bawaka Cultural Experiences
Cultural Experiences are now included with the Day Pass to Bawaka homeland.
Bawaka also offers a two-day special Cultural Experence for schools, private, or corporate groups.

Cultural Experiences will include a traditional Yolngu ‘welcome to country’ and a combination of other things, depending on the interests of the group the time of year, and available materials. This may include:
- Understanding different elements of the kinship system
- Their bush calendar that tells them which food to harvest at different time of the year.
- Different bush medicines and how they are used, including body washers
- Different Yolngu food and ways of cooking them
- Weaving, including traditional dying
- Making and repairing fish spears
- Some of the traditional history stories, including stories about the Macassin traders, some of these stories acted out in song and dance
- Other stories around the campfire
- There are too many things to cover in a short time
- In fact, more information than you could learn in a lifetime.
